liberal arts

Art is born of a rich variety of human experience and inquiry. In this spirit, liberal arts study at Montserrat helps students sharpen writing and communications skills and provides them with opportunities to explore historical, social and scientific contexts and concepts that are essential to being an artist and living in the contemporary world.

The liberal arts component of Montserrat's BFA degree and Diploma programs begins by establishing a foundation in English composition and art history. Bachelor of Fine Arts students move on to three traditional and challenging areas of study — humanities, science, and social science — and then explore the liberal arts in greater depth by selecting from a wide range of elective course offerings. This is a unique curriculum that engages both faculty and students in discovering new ways that the liberal and visual arts work together to educate the total artist.
