launching careers!

Montserrat’s Office of Internships and Career Services provides students and alumni with practical information and advice for professional career development. Our staff of artists and career professionals combines for a total 20 years of experience helping individuals navigate through the working world. Through internships, workshops, and opportunities to interact with practicing artists and professionals working in the field, the Montserrat Community actively engages with the Arts and Creative Industries beyond its walls.

Joan Milnes, Director of Internships
Joan Milnes, the NSEE 2009 Higher Education Leader of the Year, manages Montserrat’s required internship program. Montserrat students have completed internships locally, nationally and abroad creating opportunities for them to acquire professional level experience. The internship program provides a bridge between the student and employer contacts in the professional worlds. Since the program began in 2006, between 50% and 75% of Montserrat students have received offers of employment at their host sites after completing the program.

Kirk Snow, Director of Career Services
Kirk Snow is a practicing artist (MFA, Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts) with a number of years of experience as a career counselor in the non-profit sector. At Montserrat, he manages professional practice workshops, coordinates the Beyond Montserrat lecture series in collaboration with the College’s Galleries, and meets with alumni and students for career mentoring. As an artist, Kirk’s work has been shown both nationally and internationally as well as reviewed in publications such as the Boston Globe, Art New England, and the Boston Phoenix.
