When you come to Montserrat. you'll be making many decisions as you begin your art education. Whether you know exactly what you want to do or you simply bring a passion for creating art and you're not sure where that will take you in the fine or applied arts, Montserrat's Foundation Program supports you as a developing artist.

Foundation Curriculum

We've structured our art courses in the first year program to ensure you develop the fundamental skills and concepts of visual language as you explore various working methods. At the same time, our program allows you, if you so choose, to begin study of a specific discipline in your first or second semester.

In all our Foundation art courses, no single activity or approach dominates. The faculty structure their art courses to accommodate the unique blend of creative abilities in every student. Short-term and single-class assignments are balanced with several longer investigations that last a number of weeks. Students also collaborate on projects and participate in group discussions and critiques.
