Explore On-Campus Options at Our College for the Arts

Student Residence VillageWith the North Shore serving as home to America’s oldest working artist colony, Montserrat’s housing is nestled in a community rich with both history and artistic inspiration. The residences themselves offer the independence of apartment-style living, with most accommodating a minimum of four students and including at least two bedrooms with a complete bath, kitchen and living room. A trained residence staff is on hand to assist both experienced students and students who are new to our college of the arts with any problems, and all college housing is conveniently located within walking distance of Montserrat’s academic and studio facilities.

During the 2008-2009 academic year, students witnessed the construction of our college for the art’s first-ever new building, a 27,000 square-foot, 78-bed, student residence village, across from college’s main academic building. This residence offers state-of-the-art apartments with kitchens and shared living rooms, large and light-filled common spaces, ventilated studio spaces for art-making and several galleries for exhibiting student work.

The new building consists of four linked structures of multiple storied, New England-style “houses” joined by a glass connector and is designed to blend with the historic downtown neighborhood. The design incorporates the latest in environmentally-friendly, “green” design elements, and offers our students an attractive new housing option to complement Montserrat’s original historic campus residence halls.
